Understanding the Error Log

The Error Log page provides several options for viewing and managing the displayed log information.

You can specify the number of lines to display using the Tail size (lines) field.

For example, entering 100 displays the latest 100 lines.

This can be useful when copying log entries for troubleshooting or providing them to technical support.

Reload Log

Click Reload Log to refresh the displayed log and retrieve the latest available entries.

Understanding "File Not Found" Errors

One common message that may appear in the Error Log is:

File not found

This generally means that a visitor, browser, bot, or another request attempted to access a file or URL that does not exist at the requested location.

Possible causes include:

  • A deleted website file
  • An incorrect URL
  • A broken link
  • A missing image, CSS, or JavaScript file
  • An incorrectly configured website
  • A page that has been moved or renamed

Repeated errors should be investigated to determine whether they are affecting the functionality of your website.

When Should You Check the Error Log?

You may want to check your Error Log when:

  • Your website is displaying an error.
  • A page is not loading correctly.
  • Images or other website resources are missing.
  • You have recently changed your website files.
  • You have migrated or restored a website.
  • Your website is returning 404 Not Found errors.
  • You are troubleshooting unexpected website behaviour.
  • Technical support has requested your error log.
