Understanding "File Not Found" Errors
One common message that may appear in the Error Log is:
File not found
This generally means that a visitor, browser, bot, or another request attempted to access a file or URL that does not exist at the requested location.
Possible causes include:
- A deleted website file
- An incorrect URL
- A broken link
- A missing image, CSS, or JavaScript file
- An incorrectly configured website
- A page that has been moved or renamed
Repeated errors should be investigated to determine whether they are affecting the functionality of your website.
When Should You Check the Error Log?
You may want to check your Error Log when:
- Your website is displaying an error.

- You have recently changed your website files.
- You have migrated or restored a website.
