How to allow AutoSSL to renew certificates it did not issue Print

  • 0

Symptoms

You may receive the following warning from the AutoSSL system when it fails to renew a certificate:

The certificate will not renew via AutoSSL because it was not issued via
AutoSSL to exampledomain.com

Description

This is the default behavior for AutoSSL as we do not want the AutoSSL system to potentially overwrite a higher level certificate, such as an EV or OV, with a DV certificate.

Workaround

There are two things you can do to resolve this issue.  If you only wanted to fix the issue for one domain you do the following:

  • Go to WHM >> Manage SSL Hosts
  • Find the domain with the SSL you want to replace
  • Delete the certificate from that page
  • Run AutoSSL for the domain to get the new certificate installed

If you'd like to allow AutoSSL to overwrite all expiring certificates in the future, you can do this by performing the following:

  • Go to WHM >> Manage AutoSSL
  • Click on the "Options" tab
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page
  • Click the check box next to the "Allow AutoSSL to replace invalid or expiring non-AutoSSL certificates" option

For additional details on the AutoSSL system you can check out our documentation here for more details:
